Children in care should, so far as possible, have unbroken educational placements in good or outstanding schools that meet their educational needs’.

The Educational Achievement of Children in Care, Joint Paper (December 2015)

A Virtual School is not an island and is only able to support the education of children in care through positive joint working with others.  Working together  to reduce school moves, raise attendance, minimise exclusion and celebrate achievement, we can raise attainment and improve life chances.

AfC Virtual School highly regards the support and collaboration of a wide range of professionals including Teachers, Social Workers, Carers,  Educational Psychologists, IROs, Governors, CAMHs workers and many others.

One of our statutory requirements in the Virtual School, and the key message in our Mission Statement number seven, is the quality of working with others.  Members of AfC  Virtual School attend meetings and conferences across the local authorities and in schools to champion the education of children in care.

We provide a programme of training and extend our support to colleagues out of borough through the Website.  We encourage you to contact us, if you work with our young people, where ever they are placed.

Our outcomes for young people are improving thanks to a united commitment to educational achievement from all our colleagues.

“We work together with partners.. to ensure that the educational achievements of children looked-after..is seen as a priority by everyone who has responsibility for promoting their welfare”
