What is Mental Health?
Mental health encompasses our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It influences how we think, feel, and behave. It also affects how we manage stress, relate to others, and make decisions. Good mental health is important throughout life—from childhood and adolescence to adulthood.
Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS)
Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) are specialist NHS services that provide assessment and treatment for children and young people experiencing emotional, behavioural, or mental health difficulties.
CAMHS can support a wide range of challenges, including:

Eating difficulties

Low self-esteem

Anxiety

Obsessions or compulsions

Effects of abuse or traumatic experiences
CAMHS Support for Looked After Children in Richmond and Kingston
In Richmond and Kingston, CAMHS includes professionals dedicated to supporting Looked After Children. They provide timely access to advice and support around mental health and wellbeing, including:

Foster Carer surgeries for carers concerned about young people’s mental health

Consultations for Social Workers

Assessments and therapeutic interventions

One-to-one work with children and young people

Specific services for children and young people who are asylum seekers
These services can be accessed through a referral from the child’s Social Worker.
