University

Becoming a graduate is a challenge—but one that brings real rewards. On average, graduates earn £10,000 more per year than non-graduates, making the effort well worth it.

However, for young people who have experienced care, the journey to university can be even more challenging. While 46% of 18–21-year-olds who haven’t been in care attend university, only 12% of care-experienced young people do the same.

At the AfC Virtual College, we are committed to changing this.

Our Mission

We aim to significantly increase the number of young people we support who go on to higher education—where it’s the right path for them. Our approach is personal, practical, and proactive.

What We Offer

To support this journey, the AfC Virtual College provides:

  • UCAS application support

  • Taster days at universities

  • Mentoring programmes with current students or professionals

  • Guidance on funding, bursaries and scholarships

  • Transition support to help with the move into university life
