Website Accessibility Statement
This website is run by AfC Virtual School. This accessibility statement applies to www.afcvirtualschool.org.uk.
We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:
-
change colours, contrast levels and fonts using browser or device settings
-
zoom in up to 400% without the text spilling off the screen
-
navigate most of the website using a keyboard or speech recognition software
-
listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)
We have also tried to make the website text as simple as possible to understand.
Accessibility features
Responsive design
Our website is designed to work on a range of devices and screen sizes, including desktop computers, tablets and smartphones.
Keyboard navigation
Most of the website can be navigated using a keyboard.
Text readability
We aim to use clear, legible fonts, sufficient colour contrast, and layouts that support readability. Text can be resized using browser controls.
Captioning and transcripts
Where applicable, multimedia content such as videos includes captions or transcripts.
Forms
Form validation is used to support autocomplete and reduce input errors.
Non-accessible content
We know that some parts of this website are not fully accessible:
-
PDF documents
Some older PDF documents are not fully accessible to screen reader software. -
Embedded Google Maps
Embedded maps may not be fully accessible to screen reader or keyboard users. -
Forms with bespoke styling
Some forms with custom styling may not be fully accessible. -
Images
We endeavour to ensure that images include appropriate alternative text where required. If any images are missing text alternatives, users of screen readers may not be able to access the information. This does not meet WCAG 2.2 AA success criteria. -
Video content
We endeavour to ensure videos include appropriate frame titles, captions and transcripts where required. If any videos are missing these features, users of assistive technology may not be able to access the content. This does not meet WCAG 2.2 AA success criteria. -
Links
We endeavour to ensure links are descriptive and clearly convey their purpose. If any links are not sufficiently descriptive, this may create barriers for screen reader users. This does not meet WCAG 2.2 AA success criteria. -
Tables
We endeavour to ensure tables use appropriate headings and structure. If tables do not have correctly defined headings, this may create barriers for screen reader and keyboard users. This does not meet WCAG 2.2 AA success criteria. -
Brand colours
We endeavour to ensure our brand colours meet the required contrast ratios for the relevant text size. If contrast ratios are insufficient, this may create barriers for users with visual impairments. This does not meet WCAG 2.2 AA success criteria.
If you identify any of these issues, please contact us and we will seek to address them where reasonably practicable.
Ongoing efforts to improve accessibility
We are continually working to improve the accessibility of our website by:
-
Screen reader compatibility
While the website has been built with screen reader functionality in mind, further improvements may be required in collaboration with our website provider. -
Regular audits and testing
We aim to carry out periodic accessibility reviews and user testing. -
User feedback
We use feedback from users to help identify and prioritise accessibility improvements. -
Keeping up to date
We endeavour to keep up to date with evolving accessibility standards and best practice.
Third-party content
Some third-party content or linked resources may not fully meet accessibility standards. We encourage users to contact us if they experience difficulties accessing external content so that we can provide support where possible.
Enforcement procedure
The Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) is responsible for enforcing the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.
If you are not happy with how we respond to your complaint, you can contact the Equality Advisory and Support Service (EASS).
